Sign Language Week

School parliament signs their way across the school

This week was National Sign Language Week.  To raise awareness and embrace inclusivity, we spent the week learning ‘Signalong’ which is based on British Sign Language.  Signalong uses speech, sign, body language and tone of voice to communicate. It supports children who have communication difficulties.

To support the work that we are already doing in school on our behaviour curriculum and the Zones of Regulation, we focused on learning relevant signs linked to these areas.  The School Parliament taught key signs to the whole school in assembly and then visited classes each day to teach some signs. Some members of our School Parliament also attended our Coffee Morning to help our parents learn the same signs.  Our School Parliament were so mature and were great Signalong tutors!
