Greenwich Lantern Parade
Year 4 parades their spectacular creations around West Greenwich for all to see
After leaving school at 3:30pm, Year 4 walked the 15-minute journey along the river to the Greenwich Visitor Centre to collect their polar bears and Snow Queen. The children joined the Land of Narnia parade with many other schools. Some other lanterns included the wardrobe, the lamppost. Aslan the lion and other characters from the books. Year 4 did amazingly well, holding the lanterns high in the air whilst walking amongst lots of people. We made our way to the Cutty Sark, where we stopped off, sang some carols and counted down the switch on of the Greenwich Christmas lights.
The traffic on the one-way system was stopped so we could continue our procession around the market. We then entered the market square where we listened to a speech from the Mayor of Greenwich and music from the band. We had another countdown, this time of the market lights switch on.
It was a fantastic event and the children should be very proud of the work they all put in to make such a spectacle. Thank you to the parents who came along and supported the children, especially Ms Burns and Mr & Mrs Ribeiro, who came to the rescue and helped carry the lanterns.
