In the last week before the Easter holiday, the children in Year 4 finished their science topic about Forces, with one last experiment: - to see how water resistance affects an object.
The children made cubes, spheres and cones out of PlayDough and dropped them into a cylinder of water and timed how long each shape took to sink to the bottom. The most streamlined shape was the cone, which cut through the water and sank to the bottom quicker than the cube and sphere. We discovered that the cube took longer to sink than the cone because a cube has flat faces, causing more water resistance.
