World Afro Hair Day
We celebrate diversity at St Joseph's and look to break the barriers our children may face. World Afro Day is a perfect example of both of these, so we decided to celebrate as a whole school. In Early Years and KS1, the children read books about characters who had Afro hair and KS2 children completed many activities as well as watching a video of the ‘Big Assembly’ celebrating amazing Afro hair.
World Afro Day is an annual day of change, education and celebration of Afro hair, culture and identity. It raises global awareness about Afro hair discrimination and creates positive solutions. We thoroughly enjoyed being part of this positive momentum. Many children styled their hair especially for the day. More photos here.
