Year 4 visits Dulwich College

Year 4 visited Dulwich College to see the "James Caird", the lifeboat that played such an important part in the Antarctic Expedition, led by Ernest Shackleton in 1914 on the ship "Endurance". Disaster struck when the ship became trapped in the sea ice and was later crushed under the enormous pressure. Rescue plans were made and Shackleton, with five other crew members, rowed the 800 mile journey to South Georgia, where help was found. Remarkably, not one of the 28 men were lost and all returned home safely.

We enjoyed seeing the James Caird lifeboat for ourselves, capping off an exciting story about adventure, danger and endurance!
